Sun, Sand, and Soccer

It has once again been almost two months since I have updated our blog.  Sometimes I lack the inspiration I need to sit down and write an interesting blog.  This last two months have been busy but I have not really been sure where to start with this post.  Today I felt my motivation come back.

The end of July and every Saturday in August consisted of going to Alec's soccer games every morning.  He was such a little superstar on the soccer field.  He truly understands the game and has so much speed on the field.  He definitely got the soccer skills from both sides of the family via his Dad and Uncle Drew.  Because of injuries and kids dropping out before the end of the season, Alec was able to play almost every quarter of every game.  While other kids complained that it was hot and that they wanted to sit out he was ecstatic to get back in there and try to help his team win.  He has the same competitive spirit that his Dad does and he got very irritated and disappointed each time his team lost (which was a lot).  We had to explain to him that he could not be everywhere on the field (but he sure did try) and the loss did not fall completely on his shoulders.  As long as he played his best that's all he could as for.   The highlight of the season was when he scored a goal.  I think Kyle and I were more excited then he was!  He was very calm and collected while I was screaming on the sidelines!  After the game we took him out for ice cream.  It was a truly great day.

Aside from a summer full of soccer, we spent a little bit of time at the beach.  We decided to check out Bellows beach since we had never been there and hear rave reviews about it.  We all had a great time.  Alec got to play in the surf near the edge of the water since he is a little water baby.  Hailey was perfectly happy playing in the sand as far from the water as possible.

As summer came to a close it came time to start school again.  Alec went back to school on August 1st and started second grade.  I can't believe that he is in second grade already!  He is growing up and getting more independent by the second!

First day of school
Our friends Chad and Vera were leaving to move to North Carolina at the end of June so we went to the sandbar one last time.  A big group of us rented a couple of boats and brought snacks and sandwiches and headed out the the sandbar.  As it would turn out mother nature decided to turn our normally warm and sunny island into a rainy, dreary, windy one.  We went out anyway and had a good time despite the rain.  The kids played in the water and in a big float.  They didn't seem at all phased by the weather or the rain. Kyle got in the water and played football with Chad for a little while.  I decided to stay on the boat.  I barely get in the water when its warm outside let alone when its cloudy and windy.  It was nice to spend one last trip at the sandbar with some great friends.

We also celebrated Alec's seventh birthday.  We took the kids to play glow putt putt golf and laser tag.  We all played golf and then Alec and Kyle played laser tag.  Hailey and I played air hockey and skee ball.  Once the games were over, Alec got to pick where we were going to have dinner and he chose Quiznos.  After dinner we had him open his gifts.  I had him convinced that he got socks and a piggy bank filled with change for his presents so he was pleasantly surprised that he had real gifts.  He got some stuff for the beach and is now the proud owner of a pet fish.  Shark is our new family member.

He was a very happy boy and said it was the best birthday ever!

The last several weeks have been more quiet then last month.  We have been busy with school or work.  Next week Kyle's grandparents are coming out to visit so we are very excited to see them.  I will have more to write about and more pictures to post then.
