Busy, Busy Bees!

Last week was an extremely busy one.  We spent the first couple days of the week new car shopping.  We decided to trade in my Outlander.  We decided on a new GMC Acadia.  We both love it very much!  It is an awesome car!

After picking up the car, we rushed over to Alec's second soccer game of the season.  He was ready to work hard again.  He plays so well!

This weekend on the base was Bayfest.  Every year Bayfest is a three day event that has different musical acts play at night.  During the day there are rides, carnival food, booths to explore, and military displays.  We didn't go on Friday night but Saturday, Hoobastank and Puddle of Mudd played.  We went and watched the concert but about halfway through it started pouring rain!

We live in a warm place but that night between being wet and all the wind, it got a little chilly!  The concert was good but we left before it was over because of the rain.  On Sunday the weather was better. Alec got to climb on some of the different tanks that were on display.  Hailey wasn't too interesting in those however.  After the military displays we walked over to the carnival and rode a few of the rides.  The kids probably had the most fun on the helicopter ride.

After the rides I got to experience my first fried Twinkie.  It was divine!  I don't really care for regular Twinkies but I think anything it good when you dip it in hot grease.  I could have eaten my way through the carnival but I managed to restrain myself.  The concert on Sunday was country singer Joe Nichols.  There were so many cowboy hats and boots there I thought I was in Texas.  Joe Nichols put on an awesome concert.  We all had a great time.  Hailey fell asleep on bleachers until there was a sudden downpour of rain.  The rain cleared quickly and concert continued on.  Hailey had a resurgence of energy and danced the rest of the night away with Alec, Veronica, and Ariana.

After the concert we got to go backstage and actually meet Joe Nichols.  Our whole group got to get a picture with him and shake his hand.  It was a very good end to a busy weekend.

Now life is back to normal around here again.  Just homework and work for Kyle and me.  Alec starts school on the first of August so his summer is soon coming to a close.  It has passed by quickly but then again living in Hawaii, its always summer here :)

Let the Games Begin!

So this weekend was the official start to Alec's soccer season.  The Blue Raptors had their first game Saturday.  We had to get up early and drive out to Pearl Harbor to play against one of the teams based out there.  The kids got their jerseys for the first time on game day.  Alec was very excited to be number 1 again just like he was for t-ball.  It was already hot at 10:30am when they started playing.  I think the heat got to the kids a little bit in the beginning.  The kids didn't play great as a team since many of them have never played before but they all worked hard and had a good time.  Alec was a little rockstar out there!  He had a really great time and played great.  With every goal the other team scored you could see Alec deflate a little bit.  He was getting visibly frustrated with losing but Kyle explained to him between quarters that he simply needed to play his best and that's all that matters.

Mid-quarter pep talk
All of the parents ended up helping coach since his actual coach was busy trying to get a little girl on the team to go out and play.  Our side of the field was definitely the loudest!

Waiting for a corner kick

Playing forward
In the end the team enjoyed playing and I think they were happy to get the first game out of the way.  All in all I think it is going to be a good season.

Fourth of July

This year we decided to have a simple 4th of July on the base.  We had heard that you could see the fireworks in Kailua from Fort Hase Beach on the base.  This seemed like the best option so we didn't have to find parking and fight to get a spot on the beach to watch them.  We went over to our friends Chad and Vera's house and had a barbeque to start off the day.  They have a playground right by the house so the kids ran in and out to play in between watermelon eating breaks.  After we were done eating we decided to walk over to the beach and relax before the fireworks.  It was such a perfect day to sit on the beach!

While we sat there waiting on the fireworks, the kids played in the sand.  Alec played in the water a little bit but the reef is so close to the beach that the water gets really choppy on this side of the base.

All of us adults just sat around talking and joking around.  We all had a great time.  It was good food, good weather, and great friends.  It was truly a fantastic fourth of July.

Once the sun went down the beach started to really fill up.  Families came out from all over with their lawn chairs and coolers.  It was truly a family affair.  At exactly 8 the fireworks started over the beach in Kailua.  It was perfect because we could see the fireworks but they weren't nearly as loud as they would have been if we had been closer.  The fireworks didn't last very long but it was a pretty impressive show.  They had some fireworks I had never seen before.

If you listen closely you can hear the ocean behind the voices.  It was a really great fourth of July celebration.  It made me realize that we don't go to the beach nearly as much as we should.  We will definitely have to go more often now.

So that was our fourth of July celebration.  I hope all of y'all had a great day too!
